Bet on the NHLThere are two important games tonight in the NHL Playoffs that could end a couple of conference semifinals series with sweeps.

The Tampa Bay Lightning have already swept the Washington Capitals, with that series having ended on Wednesday night with a 5-3 Lightning victory. Tonight, the Bruins and Sharks will go for victories to advance to the conference finals.

The San Jose Sharks and Detroit Red Wings face off at 7:00 PM ET tonight at the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, MI. The Sharks lead the series 3-0, winning by one goal in each game – not a very safe margin of victory. In fact, the Red Wings seem fairly confident that they can make this a series, winning four games in a row. But NHL history does feature at least three teams that have come back from 0-3 deficits, with the latest in 2010 as the Philadelphia Flyers accomplished this feat.

Those Philadelphia Flyers, if they wish to continue their postseason run, must come back from a 0-3 deficit again in 2011. They are three games behind the Boston Bruins, facing elimination tonight with an 8:00 PM ET start at the TD Garden in Boston. These two teams are in the same exact situation as last year at this time, and the Flyers bounced back from three straight losses to win four times in a row and defeat the Bruins.

The conference semifinals have not been very competitive as a whole this year in the NHL. The only team to have lost a game but still leading in the series is the Vancouver Canucks, who lead the Nashville Predators 3-1. While there have been some great individual games played so far, the playoff series' have been dominated by one team or another. As fans, we can hope that as teams advance to the conference finals round, the series will not be so one-sided.
