{modeul nfl icon} The Houston Texans host the San Diego Chargers this Sunday in Week 9 of the 2010 NFL regular season. Houston goes into the weekend after an upsetting loss to Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts last weekend, the final score was 17-30 according to sportsbook. San Diego on the other hand, is coming off a big Halloween win vs. the Titans.

San Diego has been faced with a slew of injuries, forcing them to utilize their rookie wide receivers Syi Ajirotutu and Gary Banks this weekend at Houston. It is also looking like three-time Pro Bowl linebacker Shawne Merriman will become an unrestricted free agent very soon. He was waived after he passed an exit physical on Tuesday, and teams have until 4PM EST Wednesday to make a claim for the linebacker or he will be on his way to freedom. If a team does claim Merriman, they will owe him the remainder of his $3.269 million dollar 2010 salary. This move has been expected for a couple weeks now, ever since the Chargers placed him on the injured reserve list with a "minor-injury" designation on October 13th, due to a calf injury. He is known as "Lights Out" because of his once-ferocious hits. Merriman led the NFL with 39.5 sacks during his first three season.

The Chargers have also recently placed wide receiver Buster Davis on the injured reserve list and re-signed tackle Adam Terry.

As for the Texans, they watched Peyton Manning drive his Colts back to the top of the AFC South last weekend. Manning went 26 of 45 for 268 yards with two touchdowns. QB Matt Schaub has dropped in production this season but he is still a top five NFL quarterback. One reason for Schaub's drop in production is the new found running game of the Houston Texans. Arian Foster has been a breath of fresh air opening up the short passing game for Schaub and the Texans offense.
