Bet on NCAABSo, instead of a No. 3 Purdue vs. No. 2 Notre Dame game to look forward to, last night brought two shocking results from the United Center in Chicago. And now we will all get to look forward to a VCU vs. Florida State matchup. VCU eliminated the Boilermakers from the tournament yesterday afternoon, while the Irish fell to the Seminoles.

These games were not even close, too. VCU blew out Purdue in a 94-76 rout, while Florida State easily took care of Notre Dame, 71-57. Although the Florida State upset was not that shocking, it should be remembered that VCU had to win a game against USC – which they won – in the First Four round even to get a shot at playing some of these elite teams deeper in the tournament.

And then the Rams went on to knock out Georgetown and Purdue. This will be VCU's first trip ever to the Sweet Sixteen, and they are doing it in style, crushing one favorite after another. Can they keep up their run when they go to San Antonio? It will be the first NCAA tournament game in history matching a No. 10 seed against a No. 11 seed.

VCU had many, many doubters coming into the tournament, and there will be many who will favor Florida State for the win over the Rams. This will be the Seminoles' first trip to the Sweet 16 since 1993, and only their fourth time in the history of the school. Despite being given their highest seed since 1981, the Fighting Irish left the tournament on the first weekend, as they usually do.

On a side note, with Notre Dame leaving the tournament, the Big East conference as a whole has been disappointing this year. Said to be the best conference in the nation, eleven Big East teams made it into the NCAA tournament, but only two are left after the first weekend: UConn and Marquette. The ACC is doing better, sending three teams including Florida State to the round of 16.
