Bet on the NBAThe San Antonio Spurs are coming off of their worst loss of the season, a 110-80 point blowout at the hands of the Miami Heat. On Friday night, they will try to bounce back against the Mavericks in Dallas, a team they have lost their last four regular season games to when Dirk Nowitzki plays for Dallas. The Spurs have only suffered back-to-back defeats once this season so far.

Despite having the best record in the NBA at 54-13, the Spurs looked extremely vulnerable on Monday night in Miami. And their wins before facing Miami were not very impressive, with their average margin of victory in the three games prior to the Heat matchup a paltry 6.7 points. Furthermore, two of those games were in San Antonio against the Detroit Pistons and Sacramento Kings, two of the worst in the league.

So are the Spurs losing a little bit of their momentum this late in the season? They have had three days off to rest and adjust, but facing the Mavericks in Dallas will be one of their greatest challenges this year. Dallas has also been struggling recently, losing four out of six games in one recent stretch. They lost back-to-back games against the Los Angeles Lakers and the Portland Trailblazers.

While the Spurs are up 2-1 on the season series, they lost the only game where Dallas was able to rely on Nowitzki. That game was a 103-94 victory for the Mavericks back on November 26, 2010. Nowitzki has averaged 28.0 points in Dallas' four consecutive victories against the Spurs when he has been able to play.

But it should also be remembered that the Spurs eliminated the Mavs in the first round of the 2010 NBA Playoffs. The Spurs defense has been faltering recently, as they are giving up almost nine more points in the last four games than their season average. The sportsbook lists the Mavericks as the -2 point favorites, with the total set at 198.
