Things deteriorated further in game three, with a tough 2-1 loss to the Tigers and Justin Verlander, putting the "Bronx Bombers" on the edge of elimination.

It will be up to ace southpaw C.C. Sabathia to save this N.Y sinking ship and he may very well be up to the task, posting a 7-1 postseason record and a 3.09 ERA over 13 games since joining the Yankees. He is 2-0 with a 1.53 ERA in this years playoffs. Righthander Max Scherzer has no such experience for the Tigers with his last outing being on 10/10, when he allowed just 1 unearned run to the A's over 5 and 1/3 innings. He has had success against the Yankees however, going 4-0 with a 2.39 ERA in his previous 5 career appearances versus them.
