Bet on the MLBThe west coast Los Angeles Dodgers spent the weekend on the east coast and now venture into the midwest tonight visiting St. Louis to begin a four game set with the Cardinals. The game in Busch Stadium has a scheduled start time of 8:15ET.

Neither of these teams had played well since the All Star break, that is, until this past weekend. The brooms came out for both units, although more could be seen in St.Louis after the Cards beat the lowly Cubs three times easily.

The Dodgers sweep happened in New York, so the hometwon fandom was less likely to display the cleaning tool. The number of fans left from the Dodgers days in Brooklyn is obviously dwindling. The Dodgers began the weekend by scoring 6 runs in the first three innings they played at Citi Field, then held off the Mets in an eventual 7-6 victory. Matt Kemp homered in the victory versus Johan Santana.

L.A. got off to another good start on Saturday scoring 4 runs in the first four innings and putting up 2 insurance runs in the ninth in the 8-5 win. Juan Uribe had a homer and 4 ribbies in that one.

Yesterday, it was an overtime affair, with the Dodgers tallying 5 runs in the twelfth inning to emerge victorious yet again, 8-3. The Cardinals barely broke a sweat, even with temperatures in the nineties most of the weekend in disposing of Chicago.

They won 4-1 on Friday and then followed that with 2 consecutive shutouts (12-0, 7-0) on Saturday and Sunday. The only perspiration may have occurred Saturday night by Cardinals circling the bases while scoring all 12 runs in the seventh inning.

St. Louis (50-45) remains stuck in third of the N.L. Central, trailing the 2nd place Reds by 4.5 games. They are 26-20 in the shadow of the arch. Los Angeles (52-44) have narrowed the gap between them and the first place Giants to 1.5 games in the N.L. West. They are 23-24 away from tinseltown.

Tonight's game one pitching matchup finds two righthanders, Chad Billingsley (4-9, 4.30 ERA) taking the mound for L.A and rookie hurler, Joe Kelly (1-2, 2.75 ERA) for St. Louis.

The Cardinals are home favorites here at at -$129, while the Dodgers are +$119. The over / under is 9 total runs on a $120/$100 moneyline.
