UFC fighting for 2009 began with the UFC 93 from 02-Dublin as Rich Franklin and Dan Henderson set the tone for UFC 95 in the light heavyweight main event. Henderson won about that was as thrilling as you can ever see in UFC fighting as he earned a split decision victory over Rich Franklin on January 17.
Henderson is a former two division world champion while Franklin was a former UFC middleweight king. This fight will be a hard one for UFC 95 to live up to. Henderson improved his overall UFC fighting record to 24-7 and his mental attitude and knockout power from either hand has served him well in his career.
In another exciting bout that set the tone for UFC 95, Mauricio “Shogun” Rua defeated Mark “The Hammer” Coleman in a technical knockout at 4:36 of the 3rd round. This was a long anticipated UFC fighting rematch that held considerable interest throughout the UFC fighting and betting community.
On January 31 UFC fighting action again took center stage as Georges “Rush” St-Pierre took on BJ “The Prodigy” Penn in UFC 94 from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. St-Pierre won an outstanding and memorable UFC fighting event with a 4th round TKO to improve his overall UFC fighting mark to 18-2.
On February 7th fans were treated to another big night of UFC fighting with the UFC Fight Night from Sun Dome in Tampa, Fl. Joe “J-Lau” Lauzon defeated Jeremy “Lil' Heathen” Stephens at 4:43 of the 2nd round by submission arm lock to improve his record to 17-4 while Lauzon fell to 16-4.
Another important UFC fighting event took place that night as Josh “The Dentist” Neer defeated Mac Danzig at 3:30 of the 2nd round by triangle to improve his overall record to 25-7-1.
