UFC 99 will feature an international mixed martial arts event taking place at Lanxess Arena in Germany with a highly anticipated feature bout on the top of the card. UFC 99 is headlined by two of the biggest names in mixed martial arts as Rich “Ace” Franklin will take on Waderlei “The Axe Murderer” Silva.
Both Franklin and Silva are legendary past champions heading into UFC 99. Franklin is a former UFC middleweight champion while Silva was a PRIDE champion in his mixed martial arts career. Franklin hails from Cincinnati, Ohio and enters UFC 99 with a record of 26-4. Franklin lost his last bout on January 17 against Dan Henderson in a split decision. He has lost 2 out of his last 4 fights heading into UFC 99. Franklin is known for excellent striking and being a well rounded fighter that is in top shape for UFC 99.
Silva is a native of Brazil but fights out of Las Vegas, Nevada. He enters UFC 99 with a career record of 32-9-1 but has lost 3 out of his last 4 bouts heading into UFC 99. In his last fight on December 27 he was knocked out by Quinton Jackson at the 3:21 mark of the 1st round. Silva is known throughout UFC 99 as a powerful striker that is loaded with intensity and experience.
Also on the card is a bout between Cheick Kongo and Cain Velasquez. Kongo has a career mark of 24-4-1 while Velasquez enters the bout with a career record of 5-0. Kongo is from France and is coming off 3 consecutive wins, the last being on April 18 as he defeated Antoni Hardonk with a technical knock out. Velasquez is from San Jose, California and last fought on February 7 when he earned a technical knock out win over Denis Stojnic.
Mike Swick will take on Ben Saunders in another attractive bout. Swick is 13-2 for his career while Saunders is 7-0-2. “Quick” Swick has won 3 consecutive bouts and 8 out of his last 9 while “Killa B” Saunders has won 3 straight bouts.
