Bet on the UFCWhile much of the undercard for UFC 188 has yet to be made, the main event for this pay-per-view program on June 13 in Mexico City has already been set. Cain Velasquez will be taking on Fabricio Werdum in a major heavyweight fight. Velasquez, who is the current UFC Heavyweight champion, has a -500 line on him while Werdum is listed at +350.
This match was going to be held as part of UFC 180 in November 2014. However, the bout was delayed as Velasquez needed to have surgery on his meniscus. The two were even supposed to be coaches on an Ultimate Fighter program but that was scrapped due to Velasquez's injury.
A Check On Velasquez
Cain Velasquez has a 13-1 career record. While he lost the UFC Heavyweight title to Junior dos Santos in 2011, he ended up getting it back in 2012 in his second match against dos Santos.
Velasquez has defended his title twice since getting it back. He knocked out Antonio Silva in the first round of a match in May 2013 and in October 2013 won with a knockout with two minutes left in his third match against dos Santos.
Eleven of Velasquez's victories have been by knockout. Eight of his wins have also come in the first round.
A Look At Werdum
Fabricio Werdum has a 19-5-1 record in his MMA career. Vai Cavalo, who has competed in many international Jiu-Jitsu championships over the years, has won his last five matches. In November 2014, he won the Interim UFC Heavyweight title with a second round knockout against Mark Hunt. This helped to get him to be eligible to compete in this new title fight to become the sole heavyweight champion.
Werdum has won six of his matches by knockout and nine by submission. He has only been knocked out once with that coming against Junior dos Santos well back in 2008.
This match has been in the making for a while but it is expected to be a big moment for these two fighters. The UFC 188 event will certainly be exciting thanks to this bout.
