Bet on the UFCUFC 128 will be held this Saturday and features the light heavyweight title bout between defending champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua and rising UFC star Jon Jones. But that is not all that is featured on the the fight card for the night. In total, there will be twelve fights to watch in what should prove to be one of the most anticipated and exciting MMA events of the year.
Despite Shogun being the reigning champion, fighting to defend his title, and cement his legacy in UFC history, he is not the favorite to win. Jones has the longest reach of any fighter in UFC history and is strong in a number of fighting techniques. Few people believe that Jones can be stopped right now, and Rua has not fought in nearly a year, since UFC 113. Rua is not considered the strongest of light heavyweight champions to have reigned at the top of UFC.
Tonight will also feature the debut of Urijah Faber, who is favored to win his bout against Eddie Wineland. In fact, Faber is a huge favorite after being the marquee fighter of the World Extreme Cagefighting promotion. Wineland is coming into UFC 128 having won his last four fights, but is not a widely recognizable name in the world of MMA. If he wins tonight, however, that may change.
Rounding out the main card, Jim Miller will take on Kamal Shalorus, but the odds heavily favor Miller by greater than a 2-1 margin. Nate Marquardt and Dan Miller face each other, and few observers really expect Miller to last too long in this fight. Marquardt is the strong favorite in this one. And finally, Mirko Filipovic will hope to avoid going down to defeat at the hands of Brendan Schaub.
In terms of the preliminary card, here are your UFC 128 favorites. Edson Barboza is favored over Anthony Njokuani. Luiz Cane is the 2-1 favorite over Eliot Marshall. In a couple of matches harder to predict, Gleison Tibau is slightly favored over Kurt Pellegrino; and Ricardo Almeida is slightly favored over Mike Pyle. Nick Catone is the 2-1 favorite over Costantinos Pillipou, while Joseph Benavidez is highly favored over Ian Loveland. And finally, Erick Koch is slightly favored to beat Raphael Assuncao.
