UFC 102 will feature an outstanding Mixed Martial Arts feature bout between Randy Couture and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira from the Rose Garden in Portland, Oregon. UFC 102 fans recall that Couture is a former heavyweight and light heavyweight Mixed Martial Arts champion while Nogueira is the UFC interim heavyweight champ.
The feature bout is just one of five UFC 102 fights on the main card for one of the better Mixed Martial Arts lineups in recent memory. Also featured on the UFC 102 card is a light heavyweight bout between Keith Jardine and Thiago Silva. UFC 102 will offer a two middleweight bouts on the main card including Chris Leben versus Jake Rosholt and Nate Marquardt versus Demian Maia. A light heavyweight bout rounds out the UFC 102 main card as Brandon Vera will take on Krzysztof Soszynski.
Randy “The Natural” Couture is a 46 year old UFC 102 phenomenon and freak of nature. He has a career mark of 16-9 and has won 2 out of his last 3 bouts entering UFC 102. His last fight was on November 15, 2008 at UFC 91 as he lost to Brock Lesnar by technical knockout at the 3:07 mark of the 2nd round. He fights out of Las Vegas, Nevada. “The Natural” earned much respect at UFC 74 Respect when he scored a technical knockout win over Gabriel Gonzaga at the 1:37 mark of the 3rd round on August 25, 2007. Prior to that he defeated Tim Sylvia at UFC 68 on March 3, 2007 with a unanimous decision.
Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, known as “Minotauro” fights out of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and enters UFC 102 with a record of 31-5-1. He is also coming off a loss on December 28, 2008 at UFC 92 as he was defeated by Frank Mir in a technical knockout at the 1:54 mark of the 2nd round. Prior to that he defeated Tim Sylvia at UFC 81 by submission choke at the 1:28 mark of the 3rd round on February 2, 2008. At UFC 73 on July 7, 2007 Nogueira defeated Heath Herring by unanimous decision.
