Bet on the UFCSaturday's Pay Per View bout between Puerto Rican Legend Miguel Cotto and Carlos Mayorga should be a good one. Even though these two warriors are a bit aged, Mayorga brings an action packed style into the ring and claims that “the old Mayorga” is back and ready to do battle.
Mayorga, who hails from Nicaragua, became a national hero in 2002 when he captured the WBA welterweight title. A year later, Mayorga became a sensation by unifying the titles with his defeat of WBC title holder and pound-for-pound top fighter Vernon Forrest. Mayorga was able to defend both titles successfully once in his re-match defeat of Forrest, but he would lose them later in 2003 when he lost to IBF champ Cory Spinks.
Outside of his title defense and loss, Mayorga has been in the ring with some top talent. His bouts with Oscar De La Hoya, Felix Trinidad, and “Sugar” Shane Mosley, which all ended in losses, prove that he has the skills to compete with a fighter like Cotto.
The legendary Miguel Cotto is no stranger to top notch fights. Cotto has competed in title fights 15 times and has come out on the winning end in 14 of those fights. Cotto has held a title in every years since 2004, something which gives him Hall of Fame credentials. In 2008, while he was on his way to being named the best pound-for pound fighter in the world, Cotto stumbled with a big loss to Antonio Margarito.
On the comeback trail after his tough loss to Margarito, Cotto stepped back into the ring in 2009 only to have his hopes of a return to the top dismantled by the likes of Manny Pacquiao. The Pacquiao defeat was devastating both physically and emotionally, and Cotto has not been the same fighter since. However, Saturday night we will see a revived Miguel Cotto, as he will undoubtedly come out on top in this fight.
