Play now! Italians take the win in the 2011 World Cup of Poker, beating the UK and dominating the Americans.
It was Italy’s very first win in this event that has been running for the last seven years. The teams of four compete in a regional qualifier and then the teams of four meet in a central location to battle it out for the final table. This years event was held in the Bahamas and the final table ended at 1 am on January, 15th, 2011.
At the final table, the Philippines were the first country eliminated when pocket aces were cracked by pocket kings, held by the UK. The Filipinos went into the final table with a close second in chip count, with 45k, compared to 50k, held by the French. But ultimately, the Italians won the whole thing, led by team captain, Luca Pagano. The first place Italian team would recieve a purse of $100k to split between them, while the second place team, the UK, received $70k to split four ways.
Going into the final table, the United States team was the underdog with just $25k in chips, the lowest stack at the final table.
Congratulation to the two winning teams and better luck next year to all the other countries who participated!
