NHL wagering fans have the choice of the Detroit Red Wings or Calgary Flames in hockey wagering action from Calgary. The defending Stanley Cup champion Detroit Red Wings are again the top team in NHL wagering but were also one of the worst values on the hockey wagering board.
Detroit had an overall NHL wagering mark of 47-15-6-3 straight up but was just 26-45 against the odds. That is because Detroit is so overwhelmingly popular with the NHL wagering public that the odds makers will jack their price up sky high in order to chase away that public demand
A NHL wagering loss on Detroit is almost always costly and will take several wins to make up for. A great NHL wagering example of the cost of losing with Detroit would be from March 7 when they were clobbered at home by Columbus 2-8 as -$251 chalks.
Another even more horrific example would be from February 15 when the Red Wings lost to Colorado 5-6 at home in a shootout as bankroll busting favorites of -$345! Detroit has been a solid commodity, however, as of late.
From February 2 through March 17 the Red Wings got the cash 16 out of 22 games in a streak that helped them overtake San Jose for the top spot in the west.
The Calgary Flames have been the top team in the northwest division standings for most of the NHL wagering season and are third in the overall western conference standings but division rival Vancouver is right on their heels. Calgary had an overall hockey wagering mark of 41-23-4-2 straight up and 34-36 against the odds.
Calgary has been in something of a NHL wagering tail spin as from March 6 through March 18 the Flames got the cash in just 2 out of 6 games.
In the month of March Calgary was a strong “over” NHL wagering team as just 2 of their first 9 games of the month went under the total. Calgary was one of the top offensive teams in NHL wagering as they ranked 3rd in the NHL for scoring.
