Bet on the NHLSince coming into the league in 1970, the Vancouver Canucks have never won the Stanley Cup, but now they have their best shot in franchise history.
Just a couple of years after the Canucks joined the league, the Boston Bruins won their last title in 1972, and they also have a good shot to win another one after a long drought. But with only one team able to take home the 2011 Stanley Cup trophy, something has to give and only one team's championship drought will end in the next couple of weeks.
The Canucks have been considered serious title contenders all year, and are still the favorites entering the playoff finals. They are the -240 favorites to win the series over the Bruins, while Boston is the +240 underdogs. In fact, the Bruins have been fighting all year for recognition and respect, after melting down in historic fashion last year against Philadelphia in the second round of the playoffs. This year has been completely different, though, as the Bruins are playing their best hockey of the season.
The NHL Playoffs Championship round begins on Wednesday night in Vancouver. The first two matches will be on the Canuck home ice on Wednesday and Saturday. After that, the series moves to Boston's TD Garden for Games Three and Four on Monday, June 6, and Wednesday, June 8. Other games will be scheduled if needed. The Canucks are the -1.5 goal favorites to win the first game at home, with the total set at 5.5.
The Canucks entered the playoffs with the best record in the NHL during the regular season. They are attempting to be the first team since the Red Wings in 2008 to win both the Presidents Trophy and the Stanley Cup in the same year. But Vancouver has a long history of getting beaten up by the Bruins, winning only 25 of the past 108 matchups. And Boston won the only match between the two in the regular season, defeating Vancouver 3-1.
