Hockey odds have not treated either the Florida Panthers or the Dallas Stars very kindly in the NHL wagering stretch drive towards the post season. The Florida Panthers were in a solid position a month ago for the eastern conference playoffs before falling into a slump against the hockey odds that caused them to fall from the top eight in the east.
Florida had an overall NHL wagering mark of 35-26-2-8 straight up and 35-35 against the hockey odds. Florida’s strength against the hockey odds has been their 8th ranked defense while their offense has been middle of the road and ranked 18th overall in the league.
From March 10 through March 19 the Panthers went into a costly tail spin in which they beat the hockey odds just 1 out of 5 times. The Panthers also suffered two highly critical losses to fellow eastern contender Pittsburgh on March 5 and March 10.
Goaltender Tomas Vokoun has been the main asset for Florida against the hockey odds as he had a phenomenal save percentage of .926 and a goals against average of 2.46.
Center Stephen Weiss was Florida’s leading scorer with 12 goals and 40 assists for 52 points while left wing David Booth was the Panthers leading goal scorer with 26 along with 23 assists.
Despite their recent problems against the hockey odds Florida was still only 1 point out of a playoff spot behind Montreal and Carolina while the Rangers were just 2 points ahead of them.
On January 21 the Panthers lost 1-4 at home against the hockey odds versus the Stars in the last matchup between the two teams as the game went under the total of 5.5. Dallas center Mike Ribeiro led the Dallas effort for the payoff against the hockey odds as he had the hat trick while Stars goaltender Marty Turco stopped 27 Florida shots.
Dallas will need Turco to play like that the rest of the NHL wagering season if they are to make the playoffs as his 2.81 goals against average and .898 save percentage have been a major reason for their problems against the hockey odds.
