Bet on the NHLThe Panthers from south Florida enter the Devils den for the first time in this series as the number three seeded Florida Panthers visit six seed New Jersey in the Prudential Center. The puck drop is scheduled for 7:00ET. The game can be seen nationally on the NHL Network.
This quarter finals playoff series is tied at one game apiece entering tonights contest. In the opening game on Friday, three goals in the first period is all New Jersey needed to emerge victorious in that one 3-2. Then, on Sunday, the Panthers took a 4 goal lead into the third period before the Devils responded with two quick ones in the final session, but thats all they could muster and fell 4-2.
New Jersey feels good about how they have played except for taking too many penalties. Two of the goals scored by Florida on Sunday were power play opportunities. The first one came within the first couple of minutes in the first period and the other was during an unusual full two man advantage for a full two minutes. The Panthers are 3 of 7 on the power play in the opening 2 games while the Devils are just 1 for 8.
The Devils are playing some good even man defense allowing just 25 shots to get to the net on average. The Panthers have let 31.5 reach their goal. Both teams have experienced goaltenders in Jose Theodore for Florida and Hall of Fame sure bet, Martin Brodeur of New Jersey. They share a goals against average of 2.53 thus far. Theodore is saving pucks from the net at a rate of.921 percent while Brodeur has an unusually low save percentage by his standards of .898.
Stephen Weiss has two goals for the Panthers and Mikael Samuelsson has three assists. The Devils Zach Parise has put 12 shots on net but has yet to get one past Theodore.
New Jersey is a solid online hockey betting home favorite at -$170 while Florida is +150. It will take a wager of $115 to win $100 on the over/under of 5 goals.
