Bet on the NHLNo Canadian team has won the Stanley Cup since 1993. Whether or not one will do so in 2016 is uncertain. The current odds for Canadian teams to do this are not all that strong.
The Best Shot
The Montreal Canadiens are the best team to have a shot at bringing the Stanley Cup back up north this year. The Habs have a +1800 NHL betting line to win it all in 2016. The team continues to have one of the league’s top goalies in Carey Price. The team also has a strong defense led by P.K. Subban and a proficient offense with Max Pacioretty and Tomas Plekanec at the helm. The team also signed Alexander Semin in the offseason although whether he will actually be as productive as he was in his heyday with Washington or if he’ll be a regular healthy scratch like he was in Carolina is unclear.
The Winnipeg Jets have the closest odds to win the cup at +2800. Blake Wheeler had a strong season for the Jets last year and is hoping to improve upon his 61 points from last year.
The Edmonton Oilers have +3300 odds from our sportsbook to win this season. The Oilers haven’t been in the playoffs since 2006 but the arrival of Connor McDavid will certainly change things.
Don’t Count On the Leafs
The Toronto Maple Leafs are near the back as they have +10000 odds to win the cup. The Leafs have a new coach as Mike Babcock came to the team from Detroit. The team also traded away Phil Kessel, who had been underperforming according to his contract; this is in spite of him being the team’s leader in scoring last season. The team also got Mitch Marner, one of the top offensive prospects in the game, off of the draft.
At this moment, the Montreal Canadiens may be the best shot to win the Stanley Cup in terms of Canadian teams. Still, the high expectations for Connor McDavid in Edmonton could always play a part as the Oilers could potentially be a real surprise team.
