Bet on the NHLThe Boston Bruins have a 2-1 lead over the Washington Capitals in their first round matchup in the NHL playoffs.
Washington has been a better team against the Bruins in head-to-head competition this year with the Capitals having a 3-1. The Bruins have taken a lead in the series though, as they beat the Capitals 4-3 on their prior game this past Monday. In fact, the first two games in the series were decided in overtime periods.
Nicklas Backstrom will be out for Washington tonight. Backstrom cross-checked Rich Peverley during Monday's game. The check appeared to have aimed for his head, thus putting him at risk for injury, thus prompting a suspension on Backstrom. The Capitals have openly stated that they are opposed to this suspension and that they are unclear as to why he has to be suspended in the first place.
Braden Holtby is expected to start in goal for the Capitals again due to Tomas Vokoun's groin injury. Holtby has a 1.77 GAA in the postseason. This is in spite of starting in only six games during the regular season. In fact, he only has eighteen career starts in the regular season for his career.
Tim Thomas will be starting at goal for the Bruins. Thomas has a 1.47 GAA this postseason. He also has more experience this year with fifty-five starts to his name and a 35-19-1 record this regular season. He is particularly needed in this position as backup Tuukka Rask is out with a groin injury. It is uncertain as to when Rask could potentially come back.
The Boston Bruins have an advantage for the game although they are on the road. The Bruins are -135 favorites while the Capitals are +105 underdogs for the game. The over/under is at five goals and the Bruins also have a +220 bet for winning by at least two goals in this game.
