Bet on the NFLSunday afternoon football kicks off in the nation's capital as the undefeated Atlanta Falcons travel to Washington to take on the Redskins. The game is scheduled to kick off at 1:00 PM ET in FedEx Field in Landover, MD, and you can watch all of the action regionally on FOX.
The Falcons come into this game after a narrow victory over the Carolina Panthers, 30-28. The game was remarkably close, with 5 lead changes. A field goal in the final 4:57 brought the Falcons within 1 point of the Panthers, and then another with five second left in the game gave them the lead. QB Matt Ryan threw 25-of-40, for 369 yards, and 3 touchdowns, while WR Roddy White ran for 169 yards and 2 touchdowns on 8 catches. In their last road game, the Falcons covered the spread by 27 points against the Chargers.
The Redskins are coming off their second win of the season in a close game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 24-22. In that one, the Skins held a 474-373 edge in total yards, including a 160-80 edge in rushing yards. A 41-yard field goal by K Billy Cundiff with 3 seconds left on the clock put Washington ahead for good. But this was after the Redskins blew a 21-3 lead that they had built up by the second quarter. Rookie QB Robert Griffin III threw another efficient game, going 26-of-35, for 323 yards, while RB Alfred Morris ran for 113 yards and 1 touchdown on 21 carries.
The favorite is 9-3 ATS in Falcons games recently. Atlanta is 3-1 ATS on the season, and 1-0 ATS as the away favorite. The underdog has covered in all 4 Redskins games this year, and is 7-1 ATS going back to the 2011 season. Washington is 2-2 ATS on the season, and 0-1 ATS at home.
These teams have met just three times since 2001, with the Falcons winning two of those. Their last meeting, in November 2009, resulted in a 31-17 Atlanta victory. In that one, the Falcons were 9 point favorites. A December 2006 game resulted in a 24-14 Falcons win, in a game in which the Redskins were 1 ½ point favorites.
For this Sunday's game, the Falcons are 2 ½ point road favorites from BetRoyal.com sportsbook. The over/under is set at 50 ½ points.
