Bet on the NFLExpect a shootout in Wisconsin on Sunday afternoon as the New Orleans Saints look for their first win of the season as they take on the Green Bay Packers. The game is scheduled to start at 4:25 PM ET in Lambeau Field, and you can watch all of the action regionally on the FOX network.
The Saints come into this game after falling to the Kansas City Chiefs in the Superdome, 27-24. The Saints were up 24-13 after three quarters, but allowed the Chiefs to score 11 in the fourth, sending the game into overtime. A field goal gave KC the lead and the win. The Chiefs held a 510-288 edge in offensive yards, and held onto the ball for 16 more minutes than the Saints. That included a 273-83 deficit in rushing yards. QB Drew Brees threw 20-of-36, for 240 yards, and 3 touchdowns. So far this season, Brees has thrown just 7 touchdowns and 5 interceptions., while the defense is giving up 215 rushing yards per game.
The Packers are coming off of a controversial finish to their game in Seattle against the Seahawks. The replacement refs gave the Hawks a touchdown as the game expired, but the controversy surrounding the call has led to the NFL officials lockout ending. The Packers led the stats game with a 268-238 edge in offensive yards, and a 22-14 edge in first downs. QB Aaron Rodgers threw 26-of-39, for 223 yards, but was also sacked 8 times.
The host is 15-6 ATS recently in Saints games. New Orleans is 0-3 ATS on the season, and 0-1 ATS on the road. The Packers are 1-2 ATS overall, and 1-1 ATS as a home favorite.
These two teams have met just 5 times since 2001, with the Saints leading the series 3-2. Their last meeting, in September 2011, resulted in a 42-34 Green Bay victory. In that one, the Packers were 4 ½ point favorites. In a November 2008 matchup, the Saints won 51-29, when they were 1 point favorites.
For Sunday's game, the Packers are listed by BetRoyal.com sportsbook as the 7 ½ point home favorite. The over/under sits at 53 ½ points.
