Bet on the NFLSunday afternoon football kicks off Week 3 with a battle of Midwest teams, as the St. Louis Rams make the short trip to the Windy City to take on the Chicago Bears. The game in Soldier Field on Chicago's lakefront kicks off at 1:00 PM ET, and will be televised regionally on FOX.
The Rams are coming off of a win in Week 2, defeating the Redskins 31-28, and winning their home opener. They needed until the fourth quarter to pull ahead of the Skins, who had led the game the entire way. QB Sam Bradford finished the game 26-of-35, for 310 efficient yards, and 3 TDs. WR Danny Amendola received for 160 yards on 15 catches, as well as earning a touchdown. In fact, Amendola tied an NFL record with 12 receptions in the first half alone. The Rams held a 452-373 edge in offensive yards, despite turning the ball over three times to the Skins once.
The Bears come into this game off of a 23-10 defeat last Thursday night in Green Bay. The Packers shut down the Bears' offense, keeping them without a touchdown for the first 3 quarters of the game. Chicago suffered a 321-168 offensive yards deficit, while Green Bay forced 7 sacks and 4 interceptions. QB Jay Cutler ended the game with a dismal 11-of-27 for 126 yards and the team's only touchdown. It is difficult to find a bright spot in the Bears' performance against the Packers.
However, there may be some optimism for Bears fans looking ahead: under head coach Lovie Smith, the team is 8-2 ATS at home after a division loss. The Bears are 1-1 ATS on the season so far, and 1-0 ATS as the home favorite. The Rams are 2-0 ATS on the year, 1-0 ATS on the road, and 2-0 ATS as the underdog.
In the series matchup since 2001, Chicago leads 3 games to 2. Their last meeting in December 2009 resulted in a 17-9 Bears' win in Chicago. In that one, the Bears were favored by 9 points, just failing to cover. In a November 2008 game, the Bears won 27-3, after being favored by 7 ½ points.
For this Sunday's game, Chicago is a 7 point favorite at home, according to the BetRoyal.com casino odds. The line opened at -8 for the Bears. The over/under is set at 44 ½ points.
