Bet on the NFLThis Sunday afternoon, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers take a trip up the East Coast to New York to take on the Giants. The ball kicks off at 1:00 PM ET in MetLife Stadium. The game can be seen regionally on the FOX network.
The Buccaneers come into this game off of a victory at home over the Carolina Panthers in Week 1, 16-7. In that one, they forced two interceptions, picking off Cam Newton twice. QB Josh Freeman threw an efficient 16-of-24, for 138 yards and the team's only touchdown. The Bucs held a 130-10 edge in rushing yards over the Panthers. Tampa Bay, however, has a 134-53 point deficit over their last 3 games on the road
The Giants opened their season on Wednesday night in Week 1, losing at home to the Dallas Cowboys. Dallas held a 433-269 edge in offensive yards, as the Giants gave up 3 touchdowns. Giants QB Eli Manning was decent but uninspiring, throwing 21-of-32, for 213 yards and 1 TD. The Giants also suffered a 143-82 deficit in rushing yards to the Cowboys.
The Bucs covered the spread last week as the road underdog. Tampa Bay is 0-5 ATS after a SU win in their division as the underdog. New York failed to cover, despite being a home favorite. Against Dallas, they suffered a 10 ½ ATS loss. However, the Giants are 6-0 ATS against NFC opponents after suffering a SU loss.
Since 2001, these two teams have met 4 times, with the Giants leading the series 3-1. Their last matchup took place in September 2009, with the Giants favored by 6 ½ points, and shutting out the Bucs 24-0. In January of 2008, the Giants won 24-14 on the road in the playoffs. In that one, the Bucs were favored by 3.
New York is listed as a 7 ½ point favorite over Tampa Bay in the Betroyal.com sportsbook. The over/under is set at 44 points.
