Bet on the NFLThe Super Bowl is not just a football game, even the most important game of the season. It is much more than that nowadays. With all of the hype over the commercials, the halftime show, and the drama and spectacle surrounding the Big Game, the Super Bowl has turned into a de facto national holiday. And looking at all of the sideshows around the game is typically even more entertaining than the game itself.

For instance, take ticket prices. Every year, we are treated to enormous prices for Super Bowl tickets, along with stories of ticket scalpers reselling real and fake tickets for even more outrageous prices. This year is no different. One fan has even spent $70,000 for a suite in the Cowboys stadium, a high price for one game by anyone's standards.

Regular tickets for all us “normal folks,” though, still command huge prices in the $2,100 to $8,000 range. The average price for a Super Bowl ticket inside the stadium so far is $3,268. In fact, this year's Super Bowl is already set to be the top selling event in sports history. Party Plaza tickets are also rising, going from the original $200 offeering to $375.

And anyone hoping for a quick end to the game may want to reconsider. Pizza company Papa John's is offering a free pizza to everyone in the USA who is registered on their website – but only if the game goes to overtime. The company is estimating that it may have to give away close to 100,000 pizzas if the game goes to overtime. Of couse, you will still need to provide food for your Super Bowl party while it is being played. But a free pizza may be a worthy reward for sitting through the entire game.

What are the chances of an overtime game, though? They are actually relatively low, with only 19 games in the 2010-2011 regular season and playoff series having gone to overtime. That means there is a little over a 7% chance of enjoying a free pizza with your winnings after the game. But there is even a smaller chance of a Super Bowl going to overtime – every one in history has been won in regulation so far.
