Bet on the NFLThe Houston Texans depart the Lone Star State and head for the Carolina's to meet the Panthers on Saturday in a 2012 preseason showdown. The game is scheduled to begin in Charlotte's Bank of America Stadium at 7:00ET.
It should be a good year for the Texans, who are coming in to it off a 10-6 2011 record, a first place finish in the AFC South and the teams first playoff berth in it's ten year existence. They are once again expected to compete for the division crown this season.
Things may be a little bit more difficult with the departure of OLB Mario Williams, ILB Demarco Ryans, ORT Eric Winston and WR Jacoby Jones. However, if Houston can avoid injuries to their top two QB's, as occurred last year, they still should be fine.
Quarterback Matt Schaub will start this contest which will mark his first appearance since an injury ended his season last year in week ten. He and backup T.J. Yates will probably give way early to new additions John Beck and Case Keenum who played at the University of Houston.
Wideout Andre Johnson will likely miss this one, so look for 4th round draft pick, Keshawn Martin and 2nd year pro, Lestar Jean to be the primary receivers.
Carolina also showed improvement during the 2011 campaign finishing the season on a 4-2 run for an overall mark of 6-10. They were in third place of the NFC South. This, with a team that was 2-14 in 2010.
Even better things are expected in 2012 with possibly the league's most exciting player, Cam Newton, behind center. Expect Derek Anderson and 2010 starter Jimmy Clausen to do most of the throwing against Houston. Wide receiver, Steve Smith is questionable for this one, with a bruised knee.
The Panthers are a 3 point home favorite at betroyal.com if you are willing to wager $110 to win $100. The over/under of 35.5 total points is also on a $110/$100 moneyline.
