Bet on the NFLTwo teams from the sunshine state conduct an annual ritual when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers travel south to meet the Miami Dolphins on Friday in both teams first NFL preseason contest. The first kickoff of the game at Sun Life Stadium is scheduled for 7:30ET.
Tampa Bay finished the 2011 season with a record of 4-12, good for last place in the NFC South. After a 10 win season in 2010, they followed that up by losing 10 consecutive games at the end of last year. This ultimately led to head coach Raheem Morris being relieved of his duties at the seasons end.
New leader, Greg Schiano, who spent 11 years coaching Rutgers takes the helm this season for the Bucs. Schiano has some new and expensive talent at his disposal after the Bucs acquired WR Vincent Jackson, OG Carl Nicks and CB Eric Wright in free agency.
Josh Freeman will be back at QB, but look for newcomer Dan Orlovsky to get most of the playing time on Friday, along with third stringer, Brett Ratliffe. The Buccaneers defense will require much improvement over last years squad that allowed the most points in franchise history. Two players to watch on "D" against Miami will be draft picks Mark Barron at strong safety and Lavonte David at weak side linebacker.
Miami also has a new head coach this season. He is Joe Philbin, formerly the offensive coordinator at Green Bay. The Dolphins were 6-10 last year, finishing in third place of the AFC East.
The most interesting storyline for Miami going into this preseason opener is at quarterback. Matt Moore is the heir apparent after a good 2011 campaign despite the teams losing record. However, thirty-four-year-old David Garrard who the Dolphins picked up as a free agent is having a solid camp and you can add rookie Ryan Tannehill to the mix as their QB of the future.
Miami is favored by 2.5 on Betroyal.com in this one, if you're willing to lay $110 to win $100. Another wager of $110 will be required for the over/under of 33.5 total points.
