Bet on the NFLThe Atlanta Falcons had a 21-0 lead over the Detroit Lions at London's Wembley Stadium in a game that started at 9:30 in the morning, thus making it an afternoon game throughout Europe. The Falcons were hoping to go after a massive blowout in the first American morning start in NFL history but the Lions made a grand comeback for a 22-21 victory. This moved the Lions to 6-2 while the Falcons fell to 2-6. Still, the Lions did have to go through a major injury.
The Falcons did make a big run as Devonta Freeman had a touchdown run and Bear Pascoe got a touchdown catch for the Falcons in the first quarter. Steven Jackson also had a touchdown run in the first half.
The Lions were in big trouble as Nick Fairley collided with Ndamukong Suh on the defensive line. Suh ran into Fairley and Fairley's right knee appeared to be seriously injured. It turned out that Fairley suffered an MCL sprain and will be out for as long as a month.
The Lions went on a 15-play run to start the second half but settled on a 22-yard field goal from Matt Prater. The Lions would force a punt from the Falcons soon after, leading to Matthew Stafford connecting with Golden Tate for a 59-yard touchdown catch.
Cassius Vaughn intercepted a pass from Matt Ryan near the end of the third quarter. This led to a 20-yard field goal from Prater.
The Lions came within two as Theo Riddick caught a short touchdown pass. Stafford's pass to Tate for two points after the touchdown failed.
The Lions got the ball from a fumble with less than two minutes left. The Lions got four first downs with one coming from a defensive penalty. A delay of game penalty caused the Lions to move backwards for a game-winning field goal but Prater was able to complete it from 48 yards out to win the game at the last second.
Golden Tate had 151 receiving yards for the game. Him and Riddick almost combined for more yards than Matt Ryan's 228. Overall, the Lions were unable to break the -3.5 spread but they still got the straight up win.
