The New York Jets don’t want to end their winning streak as they host the Cincinnati Bengals this Thanksgiving. But that is not likely to happen as the Bengals have also been on a bit of a roll, they haven’t won a game in 8 weeks. The Cincinnati Bengals have been racking up big offensive numbers this season but the majority of the offense has been generated after giving up big points early in their games. The New York Jets offense is just as inconsistent as Cincinnati under the leadership of Mark Sanchez but their defense it playing in another stratosphere compared to the Cincinnati Bengals defense.
Carson Palmer is a slow starter and it is killing the Cincinnati Bengals in the win column. Jermaine Gresham has been a nice target for Palmer to look for and Terrell Owens has been a monster over the middle and on deep routes. The one question every week is, " Where is Chad Ocho Cinco?" Maybe it is time for Chad Johnson to return and change his attitude. Palmer needs one more deep ball threat to complete this offense and until Chad Ocho Cinco steps up they will be ineffective on offense.
The New York Jets defense smothers the run and is holding opposing running games below 90 yards per game. They are also one of the best passing defenses in the NFL. The New York Jets pass defense is holding their opponents below 220 yards passing per game and they are a taking the best receivers in the NFL out of games every week. This week they will be charged with keeping Terrell Owens out of the mix. Don't be surprised if Owens is held to 60 yards or less this week. The New York Jets defense has the edge over the Cincinnati Bengals offense.
Inconsistent is an understatement when discussing the New York Jets offense under the guidance of Brian Shottenheimer and the stewardship of Mark Sanchez. The weapons are available with this offense. On the ground Shonn Green and LaDanian Tomlinson are combining for just under 150 yards per game but the passing attack is averaging a below average 200 yards per game.
Santonio Holmes displayed his ability to run after the catch in the overtime win over the Detroit Lions two weekends ago an showed what this offense is capable of. The New York Jets are a team that
can get very talented receivers and running backs in open space and they can make big plays. If they can get this into their game plan they could be a better than average NFL offense.
The Cincinnati Bengals defense is non descriptive but they are not defense that can be walked on. The pass defense is better than most NFL defenses, allowing less than 220 yards per game and they are decent against the run, giving up just under 120 yards on the ground per game. The defense of the Cincinnati Bengals is tough on the edges and they are punishing over the middle also. The Cincinnati Bengals defense has the edge over the New York Jets offense.
The Las Vegas Hilton Superbook has posted the New York Jets as an eight point early line favorite over the Cincinnati Bengals in this Thanksgiving night cap game. The New York Jets defense will be the deciding factor in this game. If the New York Jets get to Carson Palmer early in this game he will lose his will to stay strong in the pocket and the game will be won by the New York Jets.
If the Cincinnati Bengals are to win this game they will have to strike early. This is not in their make up and they will have to buck their trend of slow starts. This will be a the season for the Cincinnati Bengals and if they lose this game their season is lost. Their season may already be officially over but this will be the final nail in their coffin. Take the New York Jets -8 over the Cincinnati Bengals who may pack it in if they go down two scores early.
Sportsbook lists the Jets as the 3 point home favorites this Thanksgiving, with the total over under at 44.
