Bet on the NFLIn what seems like a cruel twist of fate, the Arizona Cardinals' Carson Palmer suffered a season-ending injury just a few days after signing an extension with the Cardinals. This has pushed Drew Stanton in to the top position on the Cards' offense as the team is looking to improve upon its 8-1 record and two-game division lead this Sunday. They will be at home taking on the 7-2 Detroit Lions.
Stanton has some experience as a quarterback as he went 2-1 in a few games that he started earlier this year when Palmer was injured on another occasion. Stanton has 614 passing yards and three touchdowns for the Cardinals in the games that he has played.
However, Andre Ellington might be expected to pick up some of the pace for the team's offense. Ellington has 582 rushing yards this year and three touchdowns. He also had 332 receiving yards and two touchdowns in that position. Meanwhile, the Cards are riding high off of rookie kicker Chandler Catanzaro as he is 17-18 in field goals this year.
The Detroit Lions have a four-game winning streak but they too have been dealing with injury issues of their own. Star receiver Calvin Johnson just returned to action last week against Miami and had 113 receiving yards and a touchdown in his first game in nearly a month after he was injured for a while.
Johnson's injury has not hurt Matthew Stafford as he has 2,496 passing yards this year while Golden Tate is close to reaching the thousand-yard mark on the receiving side. Still, the running game has created a sense of worry for the Lions as they have gotten about 78 rushing yards per game, the second-worst total in the NFL. In addition, Reggie Bush has been kept out of practice with an ankle injury and is questionable.
The oddsmakers are making this out to be an extremely close game. The Cardinals are favored by a total of -1 at home, thus making this a practical pick-em game. The over/under for the points to be scored here is 41.5 for the whole game.
