Bet on the NFLThe Chargers leave the beaches of San Diego behind as they travel to Minnesota to play the Vikings on Friday night on a field named after a shopping mall. Such is the difference in lifestyles of these two cities. The aforementioned field is Mall of America in Minneapolis and the game begins at 8:00ET.
San Diego (2-0) beat Dallas last week 28-20 with backup QB Charlie Whitehurst throwing 2 TD passes. Starter Philip Rivers looked good throwing for 13-15 and 109 yards, but still showed the propensity for pickoffs suffering 2 interceptions. The Chargers will be without starting RB Ryan Matthews who will miss at least the reaminder of the preseason. WR Eddie Royal is questionable too.
Minnesota (1-1) will be missing RB Adrian Peterson who they hope to have healthy by game number one of the regular season. Even without Peterson, the Vikings had 160 yards rushing led by Toby Gerhart in their 36-14 triumph over Buffalo last week. DT Letroy Guion is out, after experiencing a setback in his recovery from a sprained posterior cruciate ligament in practice. TE John Carlson is also not expected to play against the Chargers.
These two teams met in last year's opener of the regular season with the Chargers emerging victorious 24-17. San Diego leads the series 2-1 in games played since 2001.
The Chargers are 2-0 SU, but have not played on the road yet this year. They are 2-0 ATS. The Vikings are 1-1 SU, and 1-0 SU at home. They are 1-1 ATS overall, and 1-0 ATS at home.
Minnesota is a 3 point home favorite in this one at a -$110. The Vikings are 1-0 ATS as the home favorite this preseason. This will be the first game to feature the Chargers as the underdog. The under/over of 43 total points is also on a $110/$100 moneyline.
