The Jaguars went 3-1 in the preseason, playing the Falcons in Week 4 and winning 24-14 at home. In the 2011 regular season, they went 7-9 ATS and 3-5 ATS on the road. However, the Jaguars managed to score more than 17 points in just 3 of their last 19 games. In openers, Jacksonville is 11-2 ATS and there is no reason they should not be able to hang around with the Vikings.
The Vikings went 1-3 in the preseason. They are coming off of a 28-24 loss to the Texans in Houston. During 2011, the posted an 6-8 record ATS, and went 2-5 ATS in Minneapolis. Last year, they were listed as the favorite 6 times total, only covering the spread once and losing the other five games outright. In their last five home games of the year, they gave up an average of 30 ppg.
The last time these two teams met was in 2008. In that game, Jacksonville was favored to win by 2 ½ points, but lost outright 30-12. Prior to that, in 2004, Minnesota was favored by 6 over the Jags, winning 27-16 and covering the spread. In head-to-head matchups since 2001, the Vikings lead the series 2-1, with the only Jaguars win coming in December 2001.
