Bet on the NFLThe New York Jets open the 2012 preseason away from the bright lights of the Big Apple when they travel to Ohio to Face the Cincinnati Bengals on Friday. Gametime is 7:30ET in Paul Brown Stadium.
The Jets and head coach Rex Ryan are coming off a disappointing 8-8 record last year after Ryan predicted a Super Bowl victory before the season began. But there would be no parade in Manhattan after the Jets dropped their final three contests amid a dysfunctional locker room.
So what did New York do to calm things down among the troops? They brought in Tim Tebow as probably the biggest distraction possible in an already tumultuous situation. QB Mark Sanchez will be under increased scrutiny due to the "Tebowing" that is expected to be performed by Jets fans.
Sanchez and receiver Santonio Holmes must get back on the same page for the passing game to work. Holmes will not play on Friday due to injury, so look for 2nd round pick receiver Stephen Hill to get plenty of playing time.
You can expect to see Tebow for much of the action on Friday, perhaps even displaying the teams new "Wildcat" formation installed specifically for him. Greg McElroy will see some time behind center as well.
The Bengals finished 2011 with a 9-7 mark and third place in the AFC North. Marvin Lewis returns for his tenth season as their head coach.
Andy Dalton had a solid rookie campaign along with fellow first year receiver, A.J. Green in 2011. They both should improve even more in year two.
Bruce Gradkowski will probably take most of the snaps in this one as Daltons primary backup. Brandon Tate is the odds on choice to line up as a receiver opposite Green.
New York has won 5 of 8 and the last 3 in a row in preseason play versus Cincinnati. The oddsmakers here at www.betroyal.com sportsbook have installed the Bengals as 1.5 point favorites at a -$110. The over/under is 34 total points on a $110/$100 moneyline.
