Bet on NCAAFMost people think about the rivalry between the Duke Blue Devils and the North Carolina Tar Heels as one that goes on the basketball court. However, the rivalry has extended to the football field with some big implications for the two sides. They will be meeting at Duke's home turf of Wallace Wade Stadium in Durham this Thursday night.
The 8-2 Blue Devils need to win their two remaining games in order to have a chance at winning the ACC Coastal division title. Meanwhile, the 5-5 Tar Heels require one more win in order to become bowl eligible. This marks the first of two straight rivalry games for the Heels as they'll be taking on another bowl-eligible rival, North Carolina State, next week to close out the regular season.
The Devils are ranked #25 in the two major college polls. They lost to Virginia Tech 17-16 this past weekend, thus losing their four-game winning streak. The Devils have one of the top defenses in the FBS as they are giving up 18.1 points per game. They have only given up 15 or more points in five games this year. The team also has nearly two thousand rushing yards with Shaun Wilson having 553.
The Heels beat Pittsburgh 40-35 last weekend and have won three of their last four games. The Tar Heels are scoring 35.9 points per game but they are also giving up 41.2 points per game. This makes for the fourth-worst defense in the FBS in terms of giving up points. There has been only one time this year where a team in a UNC-related game scored less than twenty points this year. Quarterback Marquise Williams currently has 2,502 passing yards and 623 rushing yards this season.
The Duke Blue Devils are -6 favorites to win this rivalry game. As a sign of just how the Heels' offense and defense have been working, the over/under for the game is at 66.5 points to be scored during the affair in Durham.
