Bet on NCAAF After a difficult 5 – 7 campaign last season, the University of Texas Longhorn football teams has something to prove to themselves and their fans this season. The horns are off to a 2 -0 start this season, but some questions still surround the team even though they have looked solid in their first two victories.
Unsure Texas fans remember last season when the horns started off 3 – 0 and had what seemed to be a great season in front of them. As the threads unraveled, a fiesty fan base that is not used to losing was looking for answers. Some of those answers have been supplied in the form of some explosive younger players in the Longhorn offense.
True freshman Malcolm Brown, Jaxon Shipley, and David Ash are poised to be an explosive part of this horn offense this season. These three young men have brought an element to the Longhorns that was not seen last season. They have the ability to take it to the house on every touch and that kind of explosion is what is needed in Austin. Quarterback Garrett Gilbert has also been impressive in his first couple of outings this season. Although he will not dominate a game, Gilbert has managed to control the game and complete 23 passes to open the season. It is obvious that the Longhorns will look to run the football as much as possible, so it is unlikely that Gilbert's role will expand as the season goes on.
However, this weeks match-up should prove to be a little more challenging. BYU is coming off a tough win over Mississippi last week (14-13), and while they do not look like the explosive BYU of prior years, they will be able to adapt thei game on both sides of the ball. Sophomore quarterback Jake Heaps has earned the starting role for the cougars, and he should be a little more effective this year with a good solid year of experience under his belt.
