Bet on NCAAFCollege football action will resume with a Thursday Night NCAAF betting matchup of bowl contenders between Virginia Tech and East Carolina on ESPN. College football fans have been disappointed in Virginia Tech this year as the Hokies have not lived up to preseason NCAAF betting expectations as defending ACC Champions.
Virginia Tech has a college football record of 5-3 straight up and 3-5 against the NCAAF betting board. The Hokies are coming off a tough college football betting loss last Thursday night as they were upset by ACC rival North Carolina 17-20 as 14.5-point home favorites. The Hokies have not covered the college football spread in their previous 3 road games this year and have lost 3 out of their last 4 against the line.
East Carolina has a college football record of 5-3 straight up and 3-4 against the spread. The Pirates are coming off a 38-19 Tuesday Night ESPN college football win at Memphis last week as 6-point favorites. East Carolina is quietly emerging as one of the best mid-major programs in college football under Skip Holtz and is the defending champion of Conference USA.
Virginia Tech’s poor offensive play has been alarming to many college football handicappers as it ranks only 73rd in the nation for total offense. The Hokies rely on defense and special teams for their success as they rank 29th overall for total defense. Tech was betrayed by its defense last week, however, as they allowed 10-19 third down conversions to North Carolina. The Hokies have a solid ground attack that is led by Ryan Williams, who has 930 yards and a 5.7 yards per carry average with 10 touchdowns.
East Carolina ranks in the middle of the college football pack for both offense and defense. They have an excellent running back in Dominique Lindsay, who has 563 yards and a 5.7 yards per carry average with 3 touchdowns this year. Virginia Tech has gotten the cash in just 2 out of their last 7 road games and has gone under the total in 4 out of their last 6 games overall. Last year East Carolina scored an epic 27-22 win over Virginia Tech as 8.5-point dogs. It was the Pirates second consecutive payout over the Hokies.
