Bet on NCAABLet there be no question about it: the Florida Gators are expected to lose to the Kentucky Wildcats when they play in Kentucky on Tuesday night. All of the signs point to the relative strength of the Wildcats with their 23-1 record so far and their number one ranking. Toss in a record 48 game win streak on their home court, and Florida looks to have no chance.
But scoring a huge upset in Rupp Arena could propel the Gators to even greater heights. They managed to climb back into the top ten rankings after wins over Mississippi State and Vanderbilt, as well as a seven-game win streak. They have not faced or won against a powerhouse team like Kentucky, though, so tonight's matchup will be a true test for the Gators.
Florida's strengths are its backcourt and its three-point shooting, with the Gators leading the nation in three-pointers. Guards Boynton and Walker lead the Florida assault from behind the arc, and this is what should have the Wildcats most worried about tonight. Despite having an insanely talented young team, Kentucky has experienced its closest games against great three point shooters.
In their two closest games of the year so far, the Wildcats allowed 20 three-pointers combined. This was a one point victory over the Tar Heels, and a one point loss to the Hoosiers. The loss to Indiana is Kentucky's only loss this season, and it resulted from some missed free throws by the Wildcats and a three-point game winner at the buzzer by the Hoosiers.
But if the Wildcats can keep the Gators under control from behind the arc, they may have little problem winning the game. NCAA basketball odds list the Wildcats as the -9 point favorites to win and hold onto their top spot in the nation. Even a close loss will not affect the Gators much, but a win could have a dramatic effect on the NCAA rankings.
