Bet on NCAABWhen the Purdue Boilermakers enter the Carver-Hawkeye Arena this Saturday to take on the Iowa Hawkeyes, they will be looking to keep their late-season momentum going.
Purdue has one seven straight games, rocketing them to the No. 6 ranking in the NCAA. The Purdue-Iowa game will start at 4:00 PM EST and will be televised on ESPN.
Iowa is coming off of a tough loss to Michigan State, where they only put up 66 points to Michigan's 85. The Hawkeyes are in last place in the Big ten Conference, and have struggled against the elite teams in the country. Their record against teams in the Top 50 is a miserable 1-8, so their chances against the Boilermakers are pretty slim.
Sportsbook odds list the Boilermakers as the 9 point favorites today. The total is set at 134.
Purdue is coming off of their latest win against Illinois 75-67, and are proving that they can play remarkably solid basketball. They are good at both ends of the court, giving up only 107. turnovers per game and keeping opponents to 44.6% shooting from the field. Purdue is expert at making teams take compromised shots, contesting every basket, and not giving up many points to free throws.
Only a single game separates Ohio State and Purdue from the top of the Big 10 conference standings. If the Buckeyes lose to Wisconsin at home and Purdue has an outstanding weekend, they two schools may end up splitting the conference title this year. And it works in their favor that Iowa has lost their last six games, while the Boilermakers are on a seven-game winning streak.
It will take close to a miracle of epic proportions for Iowa to pull out a win tonight. Their advantage is that they are playing on their home court, but freshman forward Melsahn Basabe has been a strong performer for Iowa all year. He is averaging 11.2 points and 6.9 rebounds per game, so if he has a strong afternoon, and his team can support him, the game may be tougher than expected.
