Bet on NCAABThe Kansas Jayhawks are favored by 6 1/2 over the Baylor Bears in Friday evening's semifinal Big 12 tournament game.
That the college basketball odds are so close is a testament to Baylor's great season. #11 Baylor vs #3 Kansas has all the makings of a classic Big 12 game.
The Big 12 was formed in 1996-97, and since then Kansas has dominated, winning the conference championship in 8 of the 15 years. Amazingly, Baylor is the lone Big 12 team that Kansas has never beat during the tournament, losing their only meeting in 2009 by 7 points. This is also the last time Kansas lost a game during the tournament.
Kansas has won both meetings this year between the two teams by an average of 16 points, but Kansas' coach Bill Self still seems worried. He says that there players are "so talented" that it will be hard to get ready for their match-up.
Baylor started the season with seventeen straight victories, but struggled down the stretch, going 8-6 to close the season. Their victory over Kansas State in the semi-finals, where they shot 56.9 percent, seems to have prepped them for their meeting with Kansas. Kansas is also ready to go, shooting even better, at 61.3 percent, in their semi-final win over Texas A&M.
Both teams are good at holding opponents to low scoring totals, so they might have problems reaching the over/under of 140 points. Kansas allows only 61.3 points per game, while Baylor allows just under 75, at 74.7. Kansas has won 9 games in a row, while Baylor is looking for their second straight against a very strong Kansas team. While both teams should be a big factor in the NCAA tournament, look for the Jayhawks to pull out a tough Big 12 victory here. Looking at their records and statistics on the year, you would think that this game could go either way, but it will be tough for the Bears to overcome Kansas' momentum.
