Bet on the NBAThe last meeting between the Phoenix Suns and the Boston Celtics was strange, to say the least.
This was the now-infamous game where Celtic Kevin Garnett punched Channing Frye in the groin, leading to his ejection from the game. We covered that incident in the article here. Phoenix went on to destroy the Celtics that night with a final score of 88-71.
But tonight is a fresh opportunity for the Celtics to take revenge, as the Suns travel to Boston's TD Banknorth Garden Wednesday night. The game starts at 7:30 PM Eastern time. Currently, the Suns are attempting to make it into the Western Conference playoffs, so they need every win they can get. The Suns are only a single game behind Memphis and Portland for the final two spots in the Western Conference playoffs.
Phoenix is enjoying some recent success, going 3-0 so far on a six-game road trip. They beat the new Jersey Nets in overtime Monday night 104-103. In the last two games, Channing Frye has put up game-winning shots. The Suns are not favored to win tonight against the Celtics, but their win on January 28 should give them some much-needed confidence tonight.
The Celtics are coming off of a successful road trip and are leading the Eastern Conference. Boston has won five of their last six games, beating the Utah Jazz Monday night 107-102. This was the first time that the Celtics have swept the season series with the Jazz since the 2005-2006 series.
Boston has a strong defense, leading the NBA in allowing only 91.3 points per game. But the Suns are strong on the road, averaging 104.7 points. This puts them at one of the highest-scoring road teams in the NBA, and Boston will have to keep the Suns under 100 points to be sure of a win. Phoenix is only 1-10 when scoring fewer than 100 points in a game on the road.
