Bet on the NBATwo of the top basketball organizations in the NBA will meet on Friday night in San Antonio as the Miami Heat take on the Spurs.
Will the Heat finally rise to the challenge and defeat one of the elite teams in the NBA? They have yet to beat one of the elite teams in the Eastern Conference, the Chicago Bulls or the Boston Celtics. Or will the Spurs' solid basketball dominate the cult-of-personality Heat team?
Critics are starting to wonder if Miami is a safe bet when it comes to beating great teams in the regular season. And if they are unable to get the upper hand on the Bulls or Celtics even once, what does that say about their postseason chances? Sportsbook odds currently list San Antonio as the 2.5 point favorites tonight, with the total sitting at 195.5. A high-scoring game is expected.
Miami has beaten a few good teams this year, including the Orlando Magic, Oklahoma City Thunder, and Los Angeles Lakers. So the team has had more success winning against teams in the Western Conference than in the East. Maybe Miami is playing in the wrong conference this season! They take on the Spurs this Friday night, and then have another chance to beat the Bulls on Sunday.
In fact, the Heat are currently on a ten-game stretch that sees them play against numerous potential playoff rivals. Their success in this stretch will be critical for showing that they really are an elite team, rather than just a good team that beats up on all of the sub-par NBA franchises. Destroying the Cavaliers means little when they are 0-3 against the Celtics and 0-2 against the Bulls.
The Spurs are coming off of a 109-99 win against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday night. San Antonio is now at 50 wins and has the best record in the NBA. The Spurs are such a consistently good team that they have put together 50-win seasons for the past twelve years, as well as 21 straight games at home. The matchup with the Heat will be their biggest challenge in a while.
