NBA playoffs action opens Saturday with an eastern conference matchup that could provide gamblers with lower than normal NBA scores. NBA playoffs handicappers expect 1-seed Cleveland to have an easy time with 8-seed Detroit with NBA scores strongly in their favor.
The central question for the NBA playoffs in this series is if Cleveland will be able to provide any board value against Detroit. The odds will be high on the Cavaliers, who will need to post NBA scores with a large margin of victory to cover some potential overlays against a Detroit team that few gamblers will find attractive for the NBA playoffs.
The Detroit Pistons limp into the eastern conference NBA playoffs with an overall record of 39-43 straight up and an even worse 34-48 against the spread. The only asset that Detroit seems to have for the NBA playoffs is their 8th ranked defense. The Pistons offense was one of the worst in the league as it ranked 28th overall. Detroit's leading scorer was Tayshaun Prince, who averaged only 14.2 points per game, which is indicative of the Pistons ineptitude on offense. The Pistons were a pathetic home team against the board with a mark of 13-28 against the spread.
The Cleveland Cavaliers enter the NBA playoffs with a mark of 66-16 straight up and 50-32 against the spread. Unlike Detroit, Cleveland was a strong home team with a mark of 28-13 against the spread. Just 16 out of Cleveland's 41 home games went over the total.
Cleveland was a far more balanced team than Detroit as they ranked 13th on offense and number 1 in the NBA for defense. LeBron James led Cleveland with 28.4 points per game and may be the most dominant player in the NBA playoffs as he also led the Cavs in assists, rebounds, steals, and blocks!
In this head to head NBA playoffs matchup the chalk has gotten the cash in 8 out of the last 9 meetings while the two teams have gone under the total in 29 out of their last 35 matchups. Cleveland will host games 1&2 on April 18&21 and Detroit will host games 3&4 on April 24&26.
