Bet on the NBAThe first night of the NBA 2012-13 regular season ends with the Dallas Mavericks traveling to Tinseltown to meet the new look Los Angeles Lakers. The ball will be tossed up initially in the Staples Center at 10:35 PM ET and can be seen across the nation as the second game of a TNT doubleheader following the Celtic/Heat matchup.
Dallas lost out in their bid to acquire Deron Williams this offseason and apparently had interest in Dwight Howard as well who will be suiting up for tonights opponent. Who will not be suiting up for the Mavs will be Dirk Nowitzki, recovering from knee surgery. Chris Kaman is also out and it appears journeyman Eddy Curry may be the starting center. Kaman came to Dallas this year with a plethora of others, as owner Mark Cuban tries to piece together some semblance of a contender. Other newcomers include Elton Brand, O.J. Mayo and Darren Collison.
Both of these teams had disappointing ends to their seasons last year. The Thunder eliminated the Mavericks in the 1st round and the Lakers in the 2nd. Dallas was 36-30 in last years strike shortened season, while L.A. went 41-25. For what it's worth the Lakers were 0-8 this preseason.
The Lakers won all four of the regular season matchups between these teams last year. They must have been out for revenge after getting swept from the playoffs the previous season. In an April 2012 matchup, the Lakers won 112-108, as 2 point favorites. In a March 2012 game, LA won 109-93, as 4 ½ point underdogs. In a February meeting, they won 96-91 as 4 ½ point dogs. In a January game, the Lakers won 73-70, when the Mavericks were 3 ½ point underdogs.
The Mavericks are 2-8 ATS against opponents from the NBA Pacific Division. The Lakers are 0-6 ATS in Tuesday games.
The total has gone OVER in 3 of their last 4 meetings of these two teams. Dating back to the 2011 season, the total has gone OVER in 7 of their last 10 matchups.
Los Angeles has been installed by BetRoyal.com sportsbook as an 8 ½ point home favorite at a -$110. The under/over is 185 ½ total points, also on a $110/$100 moneyline.

It's been a while since we covered the NBA, but it's nice to be starting in November instead of on Christmas Day. Check out our last article on the Mavericks on this page. A similar article on the Lakers is available right here. What's the theme of both articles? Hint: it involves the OKC Thunder.
