Bet on the NBAAlthough they have been one of the best teams when they play on their home court, the Los Angeles Lakers have struggled all season on the road.
Tonight, they will take their disappointing 3-9 road record to Boston to play the Celtics, who are 10-6 at home and riding the wave of a five-game win streak. Can the Lakers finally overcome their weakness away from home and pull out a victory in the East?
For some reason, when the Lakers have to play on the road, it seems as if they leave their entire defense back in LA. While they allow only 85.2 points per game at the Staples Center, they give up an unforgivable 97.2 points per game away from Los Angeles. With those numbers, it is no wonder why they perform so well at home, earning an 11-2 record, and so poorly away.
However, the Boston Celtics have had their own woes this season, and have earned the majority of their 10 losses at home. They are 14-10 overall, but 10-6 at TD Garden. The Celtics have a great defense, allowing only 86.5 points per game. But their offense struggles as they only put an average of 90.8 points on the board each game. Contrast this with the Lakers' 93.2 average points scored per game.
But the Celtics are in the midst of a win streak, having won five in a row and nine of the previous ten games. The Lakers, on the other hand, have dropped two of the last three games and are in the middle of a six-game road trip. While LA is matched up favorably against the Celtics on paper, their poor performances on the road in general probably give the Celtics the edge tonight.
The sportsbook knows that this is a tough game to call either way, though. Giving the Celtics the -3 ½ edge is probably wise in that it will probably be a close game and could go either way. The total is set at 176, highlighting the strong Boston defense, low scoring of the Lakers on the road, and low scoring of the Celtics in general.
