Bet on the NBAAfter their first really terrible showing of the season, the Chicago Bulls will look to rebound tonight against the Atlanta Hawks.
With only two games this week before the All-Star Break, could tonight see the return of Chicago's Derrick Rose, who has missed the last five games with back spasms? If he does not return tonight, he may be back on Wednesday when the Bulls play the Bucks.
Saturday night's loss against the New Jersey Nets was the first truly bad game by the Bulls. After earning a 25-7 record throughout the season, including stretches where they played without Rose and other starters, it seemed the Bulls could play well no matter who they were missing or which team they were facing off against. But the Nets came into Chicago and dominated the Bulls.
The Hawks are coming into this game suffering from their own performance issues, however. They have lost three of their last four games, and six of their last nine. Although they have averaged 94.5 points per game throughout the season, they managed only 87.0 points per game over the last nine games. Even worse, the team managed to score fewer than 80 points in three of those games, showing their offense has stagnated.
Also worrying is the Hawks' inability to compete with the better teams in the league. Atlanta is 5-11 against teams with winning records, and eight of these losses have been in double-digits. The sportsbook is listing the Bulls as the 10 point favorites, but if the Hawks keep up their poor performances against good teams tonight, 10 points may not be nearly enough.
After suffering a loss this season, the Bulls usually come roaring back in the next contest. After a loss, the Bulls put up an average of 107 points per game while only giving up 95. If that trend holds, and combines with the trend of the Hawks scoring around 87 points or fewer against a defense like Chicago's, the Bulls could easily win the game by double-digist.
