Bet on the NBAThe scene returns to Hollywood tonight for game 6 of this NBA opening round series between the Memphis Grizzlies and Los Angeles Clippers. The contest can be seen nationally at 9:00ET on ESPN.
This is the only postseason game being played tonight, with both the hockey conference semi finals and basketballs first round winding down. The Clippers return to Staples Center with a chance to eliminate the Grizzlies as they lead the series 3-2.
The fortunes of these two teams could have been reversed had the Grizzlies been able to maintain the lead in game one after leading by as many as 27 and up by 24 with just over nine minutes remaining. Then in front of a sellout crowd, Memphis proceeded to make just one basket the rest of the way and the Clippers came back to capture an improbable 99-98 victory.
Give the Grizzlies credit for recovering from that disaster and coming back in game two with a 105-98 win. Rudy Gay led the way with 21 points. Five other Grizzlies were in double digits including O.J. Mayo with 20. Chris Paul had 29 in the losing effort.
Game three was the first of the series in L.A. and it played out like a Hollywood thriller. The aforementioned Gay hit a pair of treys in the final 13 seconds of the contest, but missed his third attempt from beyond the arc and the Los Angeles hung on to claim an 87-86 win. It would'nt have been as close if the Clippers could have had better success at the charity stripe. They made just 13 of 30 free throws.
Game four was back in Tinsel town and another dramatic performance wsa required for L.A. to come out on top 101-97 in overtime. Chris Paul insured the extra session victory by netting 8 points of the 14 scored by his team on 4-5 shooting.
Game 5 returned to Elvis hometown and this time, try as they might to give up another huge lead, Memphis won when they had to 92-80. They led by as many as 24 in the 2nd half.
Tonight's big story line revolves around the Clippers two stars, Blake Griffin twisted a knee and Chris Paul has a hip flexor both suffered Wednesday night and are being called game time decisions. The Clippers are the slimmest of home court odds favorites by 1.5 points on a $110/$100 moneyline. The same monetline applies to the over / under of 182.5 total points.
