The Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs is known as "The Run for the Roses" as the winning horse is blanketed with a bed of roses in the winner's circle.  The Kentucky Derby is also referred to as "the fastest two minutes in sports."  Churchill Downs lays claim to such titles because of its special niche in American sports lore.

Churchill Downs will host around 160,000 fans for the Kentucky Derby.  The race is known as "Everyone's Race" as the crowd will include the rowdy drunks standing in the infield to famed "Millionaire's Row" where handsome men and their beautiful women are dressed in the most elegant and unique outfits that money can buy.  The women add a special touch with their colorful hats.  Everyone sips a mint julep on Derby Day and sings "My Old Kentucky Home” as the horses come out.  That is what Churchill Downs is all about.

The Derby of course is filled with history as the greatest horses, trainers and jockeys found fame under the Twin Spires.  Horses such as Secretariat and last year's sensation, Big Brown, live on forever in the annals of this event and venue.  Jockeys such as Pat Day, Bill Shoemaker, and trainers such as D. Wayne Lucas rival the Twin Spires themselves for making this race and track the best that there is!
