Belmont Stakes odds have one of the most ironic story lines in the history of horse betting as a Kentucky Derby long shot winner now is being touted as a guarantee to win the Belmont Stakes! Belmont Stakes odds will favor Kentucky Derby winner Mine That Bird, who just a month ago was unknown in horse betting until he won the Kentucky Derby as a 50/1 long shot!
Mine That Bird will ener action this week against the Belmont Stakes odds with the jockey that rode him to victory in “The Run for the Roses,” Calvin Borel. Mine That Bird has gained horse betting respect for his strong second place showing at the Preakness Stakes as he was held off by super filly Rachel Alexandra, who was, ironically enough, ridden to victory by Borel as he jilted the Derby winning gelding for the filly. That run at the Preakness as much as the win at the Kentucky Derby has turned Mine That Bird into one of the most popular choices against the Belmont Stakes odds.
Borel was quoted as saying about the upcoming race against the Belmont Stakes odds, “We’re gonna win, no questions asked.” Borel made his guarantee against the Belmont Stakes odds after Mine That Bird ran half a mile in 50 seconds, which is exactly what the gelding did at the Kentucky Derby.
Borel would have again ridden Rachel Alexandra against the Belmont Stakes odds had the filly been entered but the owners decided to look out for the best interests of her and felt that a run against the Belmont Stakes odds would simply be too stressful, which freed Borel up for a re-mount with Mine That Bird.
Borel is attempting to make history this weekend against the Belmont Stakes odds as he is trying to become the first jockey to win all three Triple Crown races on two different horses.
Borel is thrilled to be back on Mine That Bird and said that he and the horse are a “good fit. Trainer Chip Woolley said that the horse has never been better and that he was training better than before the Derby itself.
