Golf betting this weekend will include in the lineup for the Travelers Championship the upset winner of last week’s US Open, Lucas Glover. Golf betting fans have little familiarity with Glover but now he will be a household name for the Travelers Championship after his impressive come from behind win at Bethpage.
Glover entered the final round of golf betting action as an after thought as the gallery and the gamblers all were focusing on Phil Mickelson as the man who would likely come from behind to win the US Open. But Glover took the lead after 6 holes in the final round and never relinquished it through the final 12 rounds and will enter action for the Travelers Championship known in golf betting now as a Major Tournament winner.
Ricky Barnes led after 3 rounds but was fading as the pressure mounted. Mickelson at one time did get a share of the golf betting lead but missed a couple of easy shots, clearing the way for the ignored Glover to steal the US Open! Glover finished US Open golf betting action with a 4 under 276 and with a $1.35 million check. His golf betting rating improved substantially as well as he went from 71st to 17th ranked in the world. Glover ended up with highest score in the US Open for a winner since 1994.
Glover is from South Carolina and is best known in golf betting for chewing tobacco and listening to Frank Sinatra. It was his first golf betting win since Disney four years ago. Glover turned pro in 2001 and graduated from Clemson in 2005. In 2009 he has played in 15 events with his 1 win in the US Open along with a 2nd place finish at the Quail Hollow Championship and a 3rd place finish in the Buick Invitational. He was in the top 25 in 6 out of 15 events this year.
Glover is the type of golfer that can take the Travelers as it is a wide open field in which many golfers would have to be considered legitimate contenders. Glover will find himself as one of the favorites now that he won the US Open!
