Bet on the MLBA group of yellow and black striped creatures will invade the Windy City tonight as the Detroit Tigers and Chicago White Sox square off to begin a pivotal 4 game series in the American League Central. The first pitch is scheduled to be thrown in U.S. Cellular Field at 8:10 ET.
Chicago (75-64) continues to lead Detrioit (73-66) in the AL Central as they have most of the season. They are currently ahead by 2 games. The division has become a two team race with Kansas City trailing the Tigers by 10.5.
It appears at this point that to make the playoffs a divisional crown will be necessary given the probability that both AL wild cards will come from the East or West. At the moment Detroit is 4.5 games behind the Orioles and Athletics for a wild card berth, with both Tampa Bay and L.A. in between them vying for the possibility of postseason play.
Tonight's pitchers are right-hander Rick Porcello (9-11, 4.58 ERA) for Detroit and southpaw Jose Quintana (5-4, 3.68 ERA) for the Sox. Against right-handers, the Sox are 54-43 overall, and 2-5 in their last 10 games. Against lefties, the Pirates are 23-20 on the year, and 2-1 in their last 10.
The Tigers were swept in L.A. over the weekend while Chicago was dropping 2 of 3 to Kansas City at "The Cell." Detroit leads the season series 10-4. 3B Kevin Youkalis missed Chicago's series with the Royals to attend the birth of a child but returns tonight. The Sox 1B/DH Adam Dunn is day to day with a strained oblique.
Detroit is 1-5 SU in their last 6 games, and 0-5 SU on the road. They total has gone UNDER in 7 of their last 8 games, and UNDER in 4 of their last 5 on the road. The Sox are 3-7 SU in their last 10 games, and 10-3 SU in their last 13 at home.
Between these two teams, the total has gone UNDER in 4 of the last six games against each other. The Tigers are 5-0 SU in their last five games against the Sox, and are 13-6 SU in their last 19 games at US Cellular Field.
This is a "pick em" with both teams listed at a -$110 in the BetRoyal.com baseball sportsbook. The over/under of 9.5 total runs is at a -$125.
