Bet on the MLBIt's game two tonight in Arlington, Texas in a series which, even though it's incredibly early in the season, could be a preview of the American League Championship series come October. Tonights first pitch is sceduled for 8:05ET.
Last night, it was the Derek Jeter show, as the perennial all star and sure bet first ballot hall of famer had four hits and Alex Rodriguez homered in a 7-4 victory shown nationally on ESPN Monday night baseball. Jeter is red hot early in the season and was 4 for 5 overall with 2 runs scored and an RBI. He is now hitting .411 on the year. Rodriguez was 1 for 2, but had 3 runs batted in on the round tripper, the 632nd of his chemically enhanced career.
CC Sabbathia got the win for the Yanks, pitching well through eight innings, giving up 4 runs on 7 hits, while striking out 8 and walking only 1. Mariano Rivera pitched a perfect ninth and picked up his fourth save. New York is now tied for the lead in the AL East with Toronto at 10-6. Like the Blue Jays they have won 4 straight, but also 7 of their last 10. They are 6-3 away from Manhattan.
Derek Holland took the loss for the Rangers, breaking a 7 game personal winning streak he had carried over from last season. He gave up 7 runs, all earned, on 9 hits through 6 innings of work. He walked 4 while striking out only 1. Texas starters were 10-1 with a 2.54 earned run average coming into Mondays contest. Elvis Andrus was the only Ranger to manage more than 1 hit and was 2 for 4 on the night.
Texas remains comfortably atop the AL West with a very healthy won, lost record of 13-4, albeit 3 of those losses came at home. They've won 8 of their last 10. Tonight's pitching matchup should be an interesting one, with right hander Hiroki Kuroda facing fellow Japanese native, Yu Darvish. Kuroda is 1-2 on the season with a 5.00 ERA, 12 strikeouts and six free passes. Darvish, also a righty is 2-0 with a 3.57 with 14 strikeouts but 13 base on balls to go with it.
Texas is favored by the sportsbook site to comeback tonight at home at -$138, while New York is a +$128. The over/under is 10 runs on a $115/$100 moneyline.
